ABOUT THE ARTFORM
GOND paintings are a form of painting from folk and tribal art that is practiced by one of the largest tribes in India. Out of Ginds, the Pradhan Gonds are considered as the most creative, proficient both with music and paintings. Gond comes from the Dravidian expression, Kond which means ‘the green mountain’. While Gond paintings are considered to be from predominantly from Madhya Pradesh.
According to the Gond belief system, each and everything whether it is a hill, river, rock or a tree is inhabited by a spirit and, consequently, is sacred. So the Gond people paint them as a form of respect and reverence. Gond paintings are a reflection of man’s close connection with his natural surroundings. They can also be insired from myths and legends or showcase abstract concepts like emotions, dreams and imagination.
WHAT WE LEARN
This 10 days workshop makes an effort to understand the spirit of Gond, thoughts of the artist and their application. Gond can be named as the most Contemporary Traditional Art with it's intricacies and textures.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Japani Shyam is one of the prominent Gond artists and daughter of the legendary Jangarh Singh Shyam. She started young learning from her father nad won The Kamla Devi Award at the age of 11. She is also the recepient of FICCI Young Achiever’s Award in 2018.

You may choose a size you are comfortable with. You will have the option to create multiple artworks during the workshop.
