About the art:
Mandana is an ornate visual folk art form of Rajasthan that graces homes on festive and auspicious days, weddings as well as the beginning of winter and summer, planting season and at harvest time. After the expiry of rainy season the rural women folk repair and smear their house with cow-dung or white-wash them with lime and draw the mandana on their floors and walls.
The Meenas, one of the oldest tribal communities, perform it in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. This art is done on the walls and floors of the house, both inside and outside, to ward off evil and welcome the blessings of the gods
This painting is mostly done by women in the Meena community because it is traditionally their social role to take care of the house and family.
About the workshop:
In this workshop, we will learn with Sh. Ramdev Meena. He will guide us through the history and cultural relevance and it's importance in the Meena households.
We will then learn about commonly used motifs and their usage while creating multiple compositions.
