Recordings of 6 days LIVE workshop on Chitrakathi with Sh. Eknath and Chetan Gangavane
ABOUT THE ART
Chitrakathi are members of Thakar tribe from Sindhudurg, Maharashtra. They moved from village to village carrying their 'pothis', a set of paintings narrating stories of epics. The storytelling was accompanied by musical instruments and vocals.
The artists were patronized by Shivaji the great, who appointed them as spies to know of the wellbeing of public and feedback on administration.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
This workshop offers understanding of the Chitrakathi painting tradition and the people associated with it. We will sketch and paint the artwork shown in the promo, which is a scene from the Rmayana as narrated by the Thankars.
It is an interesting scene depicting King Dashratha and his 3 wives, where they are taking the prasad, when a crow comes and grab a ball of rice.
We will also hear the associated story.
ARTIST
Sh. Eknath and Chetan Gangavane are committed to carry forward the family legacy of Chitrakathi paintings which their father Padmasri Sh. Parshuram Gangavane has preserved with his sole efforts over last 3 decades.
