ABOUT THE ARTFORM 
Mata ni Pachedi
 means “behind the Mother Goddess” in Gujarati. Pachedi is a religious textile folk art. It is also known as the Kalamkari of Gujarat, given the similarity of technique. It features the Mother Goddess and her stories at the center, the remaining cloth is then filled with images of devotees along with flora and fauna.

WHAT WE LEARN
In this intensive workshop, we learn different elements like animals, figures, water elements, devotees, 3 mata swaroops with local legends and composition techniques. Last 3 days, we create a small composition using the elements learnt.

You can follow the artist's creation. At the same time, participants would be mentored and encouraged to create compositions of their own.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Artist Satish Chitara belongs to one of the last surviving families who paint the Mata ni Pachedi. He is a talented artist with a special interest in the freehand drawing of pachedis. He is a Kamala Devi Puruskar awardee.

MATERIALS:
- Watercolor paper/ handmade paper/ canvas
- Watercolor/ Poster / Acrylic colors 
- Few round brushes
- Basic stationery
- Calligraphy pen / Fineliners in black
