ABOUT THE ART
Cheriyal paintings are generally considered to be the pictorial presentation of scenes from Indian mythological epics such as Ramayana, Mahabharata, Krishna Leela, and other mythological scripts.
But, Cheriyal paintings also primarily told stories of all 7 castes of the village, the fisherman, washerman, tadi collectors, barbers, weavers and farmers.
THEME
Theme for this season is the Ramayana
WHAT WE LEARN
During the course of this 20 hours workshop, we illustrate the Ramayana in the traditional style of Cheriyal paintings of Telangana.
We importantly also study the techniques and concepts of creating original compositions using these elements. Alongwith, we learn about the history of the art, who practiced it, about the storytelling tradition and storytellers for each caste, from where it has travelled and how has it transformed over the centuries and more.
